hey guys, i have a 76 f-250 with a 351M, edelbrock performer 400 manifold, edelbrock 600 carb. mild cam. the truck seems to run great but only in the 0-175 degree temp range. once i get closer to 180-200 the truck runs very badly, very rough idle and it smokes but it doesnt smell like oil or antifreeze but it seems to have a blueish look to it. when i shut it off when its running like that it will take a while to start back up. also the truck dang near wont run unless its on very level ground, even parking in a driveway that is slightly angled it wont start until i let roll back to level ground, im guessing that is carb though, thanks for any help.
Just a guess, but it sounds to me like the carb is getting too hot and is boiling the fuel out... Do you have an insulating spacer between the manifold and the carb?
Usually a fibre or phenolic spacer gasketed on both sides.Helps to insulate the carb from the manifold heat. Also helps to build air velocity in the intake manifold.
