I have an escape 04 cd4e 65000 miles, trans works fine, I have been doing a drain and fill every 15000 with the mercon/dexIII that dipstick and manual call for.
would it be better to use the merconV or just stick with what has been working, I checked motorcraft and merconV is compatible
If I did switch to merconV should I do a complete change or just use it for drain and fill from now on, is merconV a lot better fluid?
I would just keep doing what you are doing! Merc II is a semi-syn, so you are getting the best of both worlds (price)- if you start getting any shutters, then switch to Mec V.

First, there is no such thing as MERCON II. There is MERCON and MERCON V. MERCON has been discontinued and MERCON V has been changed to be compatible with older transmissions that used MERCON.
MERCON is/was available in dino, synthetic blend, and full synthetic. The same is true for MERCON V.
