I have a F250 96' 7.3 E40D auto tranny that was replaced or rebuild at 112k it has 250k on it now.
My question is when I'm running 70 mph down the freeway flat grounds no hills I'm pushing 2300 rmp's ,when I'm going 55mph I'm pushing 1500rpm's does this sound right? Now the reason I'm asking is cause I swear I can see my diesel gauge go down now I've owned this truck for about 12 yrs but never noticed this!! I'm not towing anything lately but just trying to figure out why the crappy fuel mileage.
We got my in-laws truck working from all you folks that helped and he's popping 22 miles to the gallon but that's another story.
Sounds about right. My '96 w/ 4:10 gears runs right at those numbers. Have you checked your mileage on paper at least 3 times to get an average. Is the fuel your buying blended with NO.1 fuel? Some vendors blend at a 50/50 blend in the winter, this KILLS mileage!! You can actually lose 25% or more at a 30% NO.1 blend.
Right I knew they mix that winter fuel crap in with the good stuff during the winter months and I've compensated that but the rpm's had me worried thinking I had a tranny doing funny things. Well if that sounds about right "It is what it is" Thanks for the heads up
