I am just about to set new exaust under my truck and was wondering about putting an "H" patern between the pipes. I have heard that this is benifical due to evening out the pressure on both sides... but am wondering if this helps power at all? Also if anyone has any sugestions about gaskets for my headers... or any tips on setup I would appreciate....
I suggest getting a system built with Flowmasters, awesome sound. Nascar is now using the H pattern so I guess it does something for power as well. Use copper gaskets at the manifold. Summit Racing has them.
this h pattern you refer to is called a crossover and you are correct in saying that it equalizes the pressure on both sides . yes it will give you a little more horse power .as jowilker said use flowmaster they do sound great. i have headers, crossover and flowmaster on my 1968 mustang 289hp and also flowmaster on my 1979 f-250 4x4 (still havent gotten headers for truck though) also the flowmaster dual chamber muffler is the one that sounds best, not to loud and not to quiet
What a crossover pipe on a V8 engine does is not so much equalize the pressure, but increase the frequency of the pressure pulses in the pipes. This helps to keep the flow velocity up, which in turn helps cylinder scavenging.
