Is This True?

Folks,
I got a question; I am new here, just got my 1993 F250 7.3L in December 09. One of the reasons I bought the truck because I was told that the 7.3L will last a long time if well maintained. I have about 227000miles on the dash, and I was told by a mechanic that the 7.3L IDI “was designed to be a 100-150K mile throw away motor”. That the 1994 and later models Is the true 7.3L. Is this true?

I have over 300,000 miles on my 7.3 IDI. It is by no means a throw away motor. They will run forever if you take care of em.

I love my 7.3 IDI's... I have seen a lot of the newer powerstrokes pop with as little as 180k on them... so i think he got it backwards, haha.

192K on mine. Replaced the water pump this summer, and glow plugs when I bought it 2 years ago, as far as I can tell, everything else is original, and I do mean everything! (at least on the engine).
I replaced the injector return lines about 2 weeks ago and they still had remnants of the original gray paint under the dirt and grease. So I wouldn't believe what he said.

247+++ and climbing... Powerstrokes just have too much to wrong if ya ask me and way to expensive to fix. A guy that works for me has a 97 PS, he took it to the local shop last year for a glow plug problem. They charged him $560 to change the darn glow plugs!
I rebuilt my ENTIRE glow plug system, for under $250... I think my idi is hanging around a while.

my guess is,that your mechanic has a 1994 or latter powerstroke truck he'd like to trade ya lol.

you didn't pay all that extra $ for your 93 diesel compared to its gasser equivalent because it had a "throw away motor"
