I was driving the old beast home and all was well until a couple miles from home it started to lose power and continued to get progressively worse. Barely kept on running (pedal to the floor to maintain 15 mph while bucking and jerking and with much blue exhaust) to get into the driveway. It would start again but only keep running at about 500 rpm with the pedal to the floor and plenty of raw fuel blue exhaust. Now it will start and run for only one or two seconds at a time. When cranking I get 4.5 PSI at the schraeder valve. When I crack the fuel lines at the injectors I do get some fuel leakage. IP prv "O" rings??? Any suggestions????
When was the fuel filter last changed? I would start by changing that. Before installing the new filter fill it with Diesel Clean, or Howes or your favorite additive. Blue smoke is more oil related than fuel. You might want to clean the CDR also. It is the tuna can shaped thing held on with two bolts under the air filter housing on the back side of the intake throat. Soak it in gas for a while then let it air dry.Do not use compressed air as the diaphram will rupture.
No air at the schrader. Air filter is clean - just like new. Fuel filter was changed a month ago and filled with diesel clean at that time. I dropped the filter today and it was full of fuel. No restriction in the fuel filter (screw in a clean 1/2" NPT pipe nipple into the filter and blow into it - same back pressure as a new filter). CDR was cleaned a couple months ago and was just as clean today when I checked it. Fuel level in both tanks is over 1/2 full. This evening I took the cover off of the IP to have a quick look at the shutoff and timing advance solenoids. Reassembled it and it started right away and ran like a charm for about 10 -12 seconds until it started to smoke blue again, and barely kept running until it quit. Restarts would only stay running for 1 or 2 seconds. Pulled the cover a few more times and each time the initial start ran for 10-12 seconds and restarts for only 1 or 2. Based on the odour, the blue smoke is definitely fuel.
Sounding like the IP.
Does anybody know what hex head is on the sides of the pump body is.
The reason I am asking is I have had my pump air lock or something and cracked this open and it ran good and continued to,but I have had a bad IP that would run as long as this was cracked open but die when I closed it ,the fix was a new IP on this one.
I hate to suggest this when I don't know for sure what this is or what it does.
Thanks Dave there is one on both sides low down on the body. I only know it worked for me and one pump lasted a long time after that. Every pump that killed the motor when I tightened it back up has had to be replaced.
