code 1208?????

01 F250 199,000 miles, started fine earlier, went out couple hours later and it won't start cranks good but doesn't catch. RPM's don't move at all, changed cps and still got nothing, oil is good, I am getting a code 1208 IPR sensor but not sure what to do with that. Any help is appreciated.

I don't see P1208 in my manual. Did the new CPS make the tach move? Any smoke out the tail pipe while cranking? All dash lights working normal (WTS etc)? Any blown fuses?

Have you looked at the IPR to make sure the tin nut didn't fall off the back or the wires aren't chaffed and shorting together? Did you check the wires to the ICP? Unplug the ICP?

What are you using to pull codes? Can you monitor RPM and ICP psi while cranking?

You sure it's not a P1280.
P1280 ICP Sensor ICP sensor circuit failure. Out of range low. Open/grounded circuit, biased sensor or PCM.

Sorry it is p1280. The new CPS did not make the tach move and i'm not getting any smoke out of the pipes while cranking, all dash lights are working and I haven't found any blown fuses.

I haven't looked at the ipr not exactly sure where that is but I will look, I did check the wires for the ICP and they are good, I also unplugged the icp and there was quite a bit of oil inside of it.
I am using my edge evolution to pull codes I may be able to monitor rpm while cranking but not icp pse. Thanks for the reply.

Ford CPS or one from the local parts house? When did the 1280 show up? That's the code that shows up if you crank with the ICP unplugged.

For the IPR location, down under the fuel filter bowl on the driver side.

I got the 1280 code as soon as I cranked it and it wouldn't start. I got the cps from Napa.

If you've got a pre-2002 model and the tach doesn't move with no blown fuses, it's time to change the CPS.

We've seen too many stories of a bad CPS out of the box from NAPA, etc. If the PCM is receiving a signal from the CPS, the tach should jump up a couple of hundred RMP's after a few seconds of cranking. No tach movement means no signal from the CPS (unless you forgot to plug it back in)

It was plugged back in. I just tried to start it again and got a p0344 which is CPS related and also got p0341 something else with the cps. So I know this one is bad now. So the question is was the one I just took out bad? It was the original one. But I wasn't getting any rpm on the tach with it either. Also FWIW when I was out a couple minutes ago trying to start it the tach didn't move for about 10 seconds but the evo was showing erratic rpm changes. But I ran my batteries dead so I will work on it again tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help.

Well as far as the batteries go, you probably know already that ~10v is needed DURING cranking to start the engine. Tell us more about the "erratic rpm's" are we talking 30-50 rpm changes around the 100-200rpm range, or crazy (anything above 200?) If CRAZY, your PCM isn't getting a good signal from the CPS, and the engine isn't going to start. I'd try putting your old CPS in, unplugging the ICP, and then attempt a start, if a go, your ICP (oil filled right?) is bad.

It was extremly erratic, my tuner was reading rpm anywhere from 20 rpm to 5300 rpm, also the tach was showing up to 500 rpm. I had the original cps in and disconnected the icp sensor and still a no go.

That sounds like some sort of electrical failure.
Don't overlook a possible failed engine control unit.

Only time I saw the P1280 code was when I unplugged the ICP sesnsor while it was running.
