i think i am gonna build my own. if anyone has access to some measurements from a kit, it would save me some trial and error. i think i am going to build it more like the one from m/f but i dont care for the wire guides at the back. roller setup on the no limit looks to be a lot safer for a frt impact. i had a hinge setup from a park avenue a while back but i guess it got thrown away. i don't know if it would be worth trying to modify one of them or start from scratch more like the others.
Sorry no one has responded to your seeking specific demensions. I know quite a few people have built tilts on your year/model etc. Have you done a search on this topic in general? That might turn up something.
My commenting will put your post back on the "front page".
Thanks for posting the reverse-tilt hood articles Stephen. I printed the one by Kent Boomer and also made a note/address re: the other--Both helpful. Probably never do one myself--but its valuable info. So I'll
have something to pass along if someone needs it.
I wasn't sure exactly "which type" of hood mod that rastiss was asking about. I wasn't sure if he meant full tilt or reverse tilt or? He used the word flip. And he did mention some other products related etc, but I'm not familiar with the specific products he mentioned. If i were that probably would have made it more clear for me.
I'm guessing just the hood since he mentioned rollers. I'm planning a full front tilt and though I could use rollers they're not anywhere near the first questions I asked, lol. If however I'm wrong, I have a topic a few pages back asking if anyone has any great ideas with a full front tilt, Julies would be one to contact about it.
actually i have looked at both of those articles. the first one doesnt really give much as far as measurements. it does tell you hole diameters but not much else. maybe a lil insight i guess. the second does give some more details at a totally different approach. i can certainly see some things i'd change but his concept is a lot more simple. the store bought ones give more access to work on stuff. the original style latches arent real safe by todays standards. his latch on the back is good idea. personally, i'd prefer a latch on each side like a bmw or a vette. and normal automotive hood bumpers. not sure which system is safer as far as crash worthiness. if run dual rear latches, the hood won't come thru the w/s and get you like the cheesy steel rod hooks could allow, imo.
lol if you're in an accident hard enough to send the hood through the windsheild I think you'd already be lucky to survive that. But if it's an issue you can use trunk latches, you could even hook up two to work off one cable. Even if you crashed hard enough or in such a way that the hood managed to rip off the latches and everything holding it, more than likely it still be deflected off the w/s rather than go through it. And if it did the a-pillars should stop it long before it comes close to your face.
actually, it doesnt take as much as you mite think. i am in the body shop biz and have seen it numerous times. not so much on newer cars as they have collapse zones. but i have witnessed it up into the 90's. cars from way back when had NO collapse zones to disperse energy like cars today. this is my sons truck and i dont want him to get hurt in a death trap. people drive faster now and more of them than when the 55 was built. those 1/4" wire roller guides aint gonna do it for me. there again, just my $.02.
If you have a reverse tilt hood arrangement and it gets hit hard enough to dislodge it from it's front anchors, it's going to pop straight up into the air (in a nose down position) and over (or on top of) the top of the cab. And what ever hit is is going to be sitting in your engine bay at the radiator.
