timing
O'k, call me stupid. but when I put my 351M back together I must have forgotten the timing pointer which mounts to the engine block. well, its in Louisiana and I'm in Germany. I need to get the timing as close as possible, when I get the timing set good the carb is all messed up and vice versa. I only have 1000 miles on the truck and the carb is new to. Any advice on timing this engine.

If you don't locate a stock marker, you can make your own at any convenient point on the block. It is all relative as you can have your custom marker and custom mark on the damper. Then lay out the BTDC degrees that you want, The secret is getting the engine to top dead center on cylinder number one to locate your TDC mark. If you do use a factory marker and an old damper, make sure the rubber hasn't slipped or else you will never get the timing back.
