ok, i think i'm going to try the junkyard and look for an old one, a re manufactured starter costs 300 bucks from lmc, ouch
You might get lucky at the junkyard, but personally I would just get a new drive for your starter. I'm almost certain you could find a new drive. And it can't be that hard to install a new drive. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, shouldn't be much labor.
pull a part has them for $15.34 fully tested and fol like $1.50 extra i think you get a 90 day warranty.... It won't hurt to look.... I look at it as a huge playground for me... lol gonna go 2mrow and get parts
hey guys so i splurged and picked up a new starter from autozone, 140 bucks but the lifetime warranty sealed the deal, so after a big fight with the inner fenderwell that ended with a sawzall, i was able to drop the old starter and put the new one in, the third bolt was a major pita as you cant do much when your stuck with 6 inches between the frame and engine block, but i still cant believe i did it one day thanks for all the help!
I think you did the right thing. I had a 86 with 6.9.I paid about 140 for a new Mitisubishi. In the winter the new starter fired her right up. I think you the 7.3 powerstroke. But the principle is the same.
