this is my first post, been trolling around the web, cant seem to find the info i need, I just bought a 79' f250 lwb single cab, 351m, c6, dana 60 rear, 44 front, can anyone tell me the available gear ratios for this truck? any help would be great thanks
well, 4.10s were an option, and as far as i know, and this is basically an educated guess, you probably dont have anything lower than about 3.55s in your truck, based on that it is a 4x4. what is your tire size (preferably in inches) and your engine RPM at 60 mph?
hmm dont know no tach, their 235/75/16's, i think thats like a 30x9.5x16, ill have to see, i was really jw what they offered, im hopein to do a 4" spring lift an 35s in the near future, if i have to re-gear it, ill just bite the bullet
If there is no traction device in the differential (probably the front axle will not have one), Jack up one wheel and leave the wheel on the other side on the ground.
Put the transfer case or transmission in neutral and engage hubs.
Have a friend turn the drive shaft exactly one turn. It's best to put a chalk mark on it for reference.
You can then count the number of turns and partial turns that the jacked-up wheel turns.
Then divide this number in half. (Very important)
This will give you the approximate ratio.
This will not work with traction-loc, locking devices or both wheels off the ground.
It's been many years since I have use this but try it and see if this gives you the number you are looking for.
If you still have the metal tag on the driver's door, read off the axle code and post it. The code can be deciphered using a factory service manual. This assumes, of course, that the axle is original.
