I HAD A 2003 THAT FORD REPLACED BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS.I HAVE A 2005 THAT IS AT THE DEALER WITH A BEDPLATE LEAK.IT HAS BEEN PROBLEM FREE UNTIL NOW.IT IS STILL UNDER 5 YR WARRANTY.SHOULD I EXPECT IT TO BE GOOD WHEN I GET IT BACK.THANKS FOR THE REPLY
I also have a 2005 with no problems so far after 57,000 miles, going in next week with oil leak and suspect bedplate. I am positive it will continue with few problems. good upkeep is the key.
I would imagine that if the diesel tech at your dealership knows what he is doing, then you should be fine. I had my bedplate oil leak fixed 2+ years ago and I haven't seen a drop of oil since. The only problem that I've had in the last 2+ years was a blown turbo, but that would've gone out with or without fixing the bedplate leak. The best part about the bedplate repair for me was that while the cab was lifted to be able to access the back part of the engine, the diesel tech also installed ARP headstuds for me. So I left extremely satisfied that I never saw another leak and I now had headstuds.
It is a fearful situation knowing that they are going to dismantle the engine, but that's why you need to trust whomever is working on your truck. I asked the service writer to meet the tech first and I went off the advice of many others on these sites and that's how I chose the dealership (diesel tech) I went with.
I also have a 2005 with 70,000 miles with what I have diagnosed as a bed plate leak. I took it to the dealership with 62,000 miles about two months before the warranty ran out. I paid the $100 deductable and was told that it was loose bolts on the oil pan and that the tech retorqued them, this irritated me because it would have been a simple fix for me to do myself. 600 miles later after a drive to Oklahoma. I did a visual inspection and noticed that it was still leaking, due to field time and training I was not able to return to the dealership and complain, but now it's out of warranty and I guess I would have to eat the repair costs. So if you take it in and they feed you the same line, I would definately keep an eye on it.
I was just looking over these posts again and realized that all of these trucks are 2005. Is there any reason that 2005 year models would be more susceptible to a bedplate leak? Such as a change in manufacturing practices for that year.

I was under the impression that warranty repairs had a 12 month, or 12000 mile guarantee from Ford. If the problem was not fixed you shouldn't have to pay your $100 deductible again. For example, if you have warranty work done with 1 day left on your 5 year warranty, that particular complaint is covered for the next year if it happens again.
I have a 2004 and got a bedplate leak at about 46,000 miles. Fixed under warrenty they also replaced turbo, oil cooler, and put in ARP studs for me. I did recieve a 1 year 12,000 mile warrenty from and to be honored by the dealer who did the repairs.

Luckily, I wasn't near the end of my warranty, but I also got that kind of run-around first by a dealership in Mesa, AZ. So then 2 weeks later I moved to California and that's where I found the competent service staff that it took to correctly diagnose the problem and fix it. I did have to eat the $100 deductible at the first dealership who did nothing, but at least in the end I got it fixed right.

Your right. I stopped by the ford garage today and the guy at the service desk seemed to remember me bringing it in and basicly said that since the problem was brought to their attention prior to the warranty expiring and is still persisting it is covered for 12000 miles or 1 year and set up an appt for monday. So thank you for that bit of information or I would have just lived with it until the leak got out of control. If I am correct and it is a bedplate leak, I will also ask if they will install ARP's while they have it tore down.
can anyone clear up what a bedplate, never understood it, i also have a 2005 with 92.5k leaking oil, but from some o-rings under the turbo
a bed plate is the bottom have of a shortblock (the short block is made of 2 parts). it holds the bottom half of the crank bearings. its build it to parts to "make it stronger" or so I have read.

If it is leaking from o-rings under the turbo the only ones I can think of are on the turbo oil return tube. I just ordered some today part# W300012, there are 2 of them at $6.84 a piece.
6,668 miles: Front crank seal replaced.
8,748 miles: Oil cooler gasket replaced.
19,741 miles: Bedplate gasket, and front and rear crank seals replaced.
53,028 miles: Rear crank seal and cam sensor o-ring replaced.
I now have 69,000 miles on the truck and have another oil leak--most likely the rear crank seal again. In addition to the oil leaks, my truck has been in once for transmission problems and eight times for engine work. It's a great truck, but the 6.0l diesel is a very problematic engine.
I'll be frequently towing my 16,000# fifth wheel this year and I'm really concerned that this engine will not hold up. I know it has the power, but I'm not sure it will withstand the strain.
One of the good points about my truck is it gets better fuel economy than many others. With no-load highway driving, I average 16.5 - 17.0 mpg and I have seen as high as 19.0. Mixed driving gets me 14.5 - 15.0. These numbers are only possible if I keep it at or below 2,000 rpm's.

Every year 6.0 was prone to the infamous bedplate leak.. My '03 had it and was one of the reasons I traded it after 5 weeks in the shop. Every time I took it in prior to them diagnosing it as bedplate it came out leaking more oil than before. I am leary of this leak because Ford was aware of it very early in the game and it is beyond me that engines could continue to come from the factory with the same damn leak 4 years later and this leak could only be fixed by a tech ripping your engine apart and reassembling it. I cant say that they actually fixed my bedplate leak on my '03 because it came out of the shop in the back and right up to the front to be traded in on my '06. I can tell you that my '06 has the tell tale drip on the bell housing that occasionally makes it to the floor but until it starts puddling nobody is touching it.
