No doubt these engines are notorious for oil leaks. My 05 had the short block replaced for an engine leak that couldn't be fixed and 40k miles later my second engine is now leaking from the bedplate. The pisser is I have 117k miles on the truck so I guess I'll just have to live with it.
My advice to anyone who's considering purchasing one of these trucks is to make sure you don't mind putting up with oil stains on your driveway.
No wonder why Ford divorced from International. This is a problem that should have never happened and is totally unexceptable.
Every year 6.0 was prone to the infamous bedplate leak.. My '03 had it and was one of the reasons I traded it after 5 weeks in the shop. Every time I took it in prior to them diagnosing it as bedplate it came out leaking more oil than before. I am leary of this leak because Ford was aware of it very early in the game and it is beyond me that engines could continue to come from the factory with the same damn leak 4 years later and this leak could only be fixed by a tech ripping your engine apart and reassembling it. I cant say that they actually fixed my bedplate leak on my '03 because it came out of the shop in the back and right up to the front to be traded in on my '06. I can tell you that my '06 has the tell tale drip on the bell housing that occasionally makes it to the floor but until it starts puddling nobody is touching it.
I was fortunate that the tech who fixed my bedplate leak had done many before mine. He removed the cab and engine one day, and completed the repairs and reassembly the next. I was without my truck for three days.
As you can tell by my user name I have had my share of issues. My main seal has been replaced 3 times and many programing issue early 04 amongst other problems. Now my X has 101,000 miles and my extended 100k warranty is not valid anymore. My adviser told me that these engines are prone to this bedplate leak and it probably wouldn't get worse.
Should I raise hell with the dealer and push for them to do a "warranty adjustment" to have the dealer try to fix it or see if it does get worse and live with a quarter size oil spot every time I move the truck?????
As I said in my earlier post, mine was fixed very quickly; however, I didn't know they were going to do it until the cab was off and the engine was out. Since the truck had so few miles on it, the service manager told the tech to do the work. If they had contacted me first, I would not have let them tear it apart fearing it would turn out to be a nightmare. I put about 30,000 more miles on the truck before the next leak occurred...the rear crank seal.
190k and no leaks... guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
Tell me if you would, what do you use your truck for mainly? I'm just wondering about the range of people's experiences and how hard they work their engines.

I'm in construction, so the range of use has been from hauling lumber to pulling a backhoe, anything from bumper pull to gooseneck. We've also used it to pull our 36' fifth wheel.
THEY HAVE THE ENGINE PULLED ON THE TRUCK.DID NOT PULL CAB TOOK IT OUT THROUGH THE FRONT.TECH SEEMED TO HAVE DONE ALOT OF THESE IN THE PAST.HE SAID FORD WAS USING A GASGET FORMING MATERIAL PLUS A GASGET AND THAT WAS A MUCH BETTER FIX THAT JUST A GASGET BY ITSELF SHOULD NOT HAVE REOCCURANCE OF THE PROBLEM
I HAD THE BEDPLATE FIXED.THE TECH SEEMED VERY GOOD.THEY DID NOT RAISE THE CAB.TOOK THE MOTOR OUT THROUGH THE FRONT.SO FAR IT HAS BEEN BONE DRY.VERY PLEASED SO FAR.
My '05 goes in next Thursday to have the rear seal fixed. Dealer discovered and verified during a dye test. The dealer has been real great about it - great customer service.
Picked mine up on Feb 11th bedplate and all block gaskets and seals replaced. No leaks detected after 250 miles.Everything works fine no squeaks, rattles loose fittings, hoses, etc. All seems to be ok for now.I will keep an eye on this situation and keep everyone updated.2007 bumper to bumper expired on 12/16/2009 and they did'nt charge me a $100 deductable How about that? I'm completely satisfied.Northside Ford Trucks in Portland Oregon,Has made a believer out of me.....

When you had the ARP studs installed, were the HGs also replaced? I did not see any mention of studs + HGs in your responses.
If you only had the studs installed, have you had any problems?
I installed studs only in my 6.0 back in April '09 and did not change the HGs. I have had no problems other then to rebuild my oil cooler back in December '09.

keep us updated.mine is also leaking.tech put dye in it bedplate leaking.
I have another yr left under the 5 /100k.just hate to have a great running
truck taken apart.I only a drip or 2 a week, but hey diesels leak they mark their spot..
Yea, I hear you,That was my main concern, never had to put any oil in it between oil changes.I just couldn't handle the drips on my driveway.I pondered the situation for a long time.I had nightmares about all the other problems that could arise from the extent of the repairs. It seems I haven't seen any oil leak issues with the 07s like the earlier 6.0s.I hope this will take care of the problem for good.
