OK well lets start.. 05 with the 5.4 wife said it don't like to start well i did fuel filter and plugs witch i got to say dumb dumb design on the plugs had only 1 break off $90.00 for the tool thank you Napa. when you start some times it fires right up but other times it starts then shuts down 1 or 2 times then the 3rd time starts. today would not start so i told her over the phone to floor the gas when starting and it started.. have NO codes and i cant find a fuel port to check the fuel pressure........ Please help
No problem with it actually running. Only problem is the initial start up....It is sluggish and sometimes sputters out 3-5 times prior to actually starting.
Well today she said it dont wont to stay running when shes at a stop.. Cant find the fuel port NO WHERE on the truck i bet you need a in line fuel tester.. Looke like iam going i buy a $300.00 fuel pump on pay day (no outdoors sport show for me this weekend).
I WOULD VENTURE TO SAY IT MIGHT BE THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN A FEW TIMES. MY MOMS EXPLORER NEEDED ONE. IT WOULD SOMETIMES DIE, DID WANT TO IDOL, AND SOMETIMES DIDN'T WANT TO START.
if you mean drive by wire as in a cable form the pedal to the throttle body no it is not in the Ford ETC system, the PCM directly controls the position of the throttle plate by use of a DC motor as if a simple cable linking the gas pedal to the throttle plate was not good enough, engineers have now made that design complicated as well. Why do engineers do these things to us.... Ill just take it to a shop and pay $90.00 and let them tell me whats wrong lol .. I will let you guys know whats up thanks for all the input
My truck has done the same thing, mine is a 2000 though so the engine is a little different but for the most part they are the same. My best guess would either be the o2 sensor or the fuel system. The only is that if it was an o2 sensor it normally would set a code, but it could be working fine once it gets warmed up, I think mine has the same problem, I am also going to check the fuel pressure and see what it is running and with just the pump on.

your engines are not even close to being the same, 3v vs 2v drive by wire vs conventional,
yours sounds like an iac valve tap it with a hammer see if it smooths out
