Need advice

I took my 99 F250 into a local shop 35k miles ago to have upper and lower ball installed, instead of doing it myself because they say they have a lifetime warranty.
I recently stoped at a local dealer late one night that we do business with and had the tires rotated when the mechanic informs me that when he rotated the tires the front passenger side lower ball joint has been improperly installed and has wore the tapered hole in the axle oblong and that I need a new axle.
Went back to the shop where I had them installed and they looked at it and they argreed to get a low milage salvege axle and install it properly.
The other thing I noticed was they claim to have certified technicans, now however I can't find out if they are ASE certified and if not what certification due they have that says they are qualified to do this kind of work.
My question is I really don't trust them working on my truck, if they can't do a simple ball joint replacement (and by simple I mean I could have done it properly and not had this happen and yes it would have taken a little long for me) I don't think I can trust them replacing a whole axle, Do I have the right to tell them I want it done a the dealer that I do business with so I am assured it is done correctly and by someone truely certified to due so.

Please any advice will help as I have never had to deal with this kind of issue.

Thanks

usually if they are certified they will display the certs on the wall. Ask them about that. Don't think you could force them to pay for work elsewhere at this point.

However, should there be another issue you could always repair out of pocket and try small claims court. But this is not going to be the best course of action, rather just get them to do it right and inspect their work with them when completed.

My thought is even the best of techs make mistakes and they are standing behind their work rather than trying to dodge the bullet. Certification only means someone has passed a test. It does not guarantee a good job.

Look it over when it is done would be my advice also.

Good luck,

Steve
