Just thought I'd share what I found out last night...
The front plate bracket on the 2008 trucks doesn't actually connect to anything. It is wedged between the plastic air dam (which is held on by plastic clips) and the bumper.
hit a high spot on a dirt road and pull the air dam off, and your plate goes too...
Cops will nail you for not having a front plate, so this sounds like the perfect excuse buy a Ranch Hand... so you can bolt the plate to the grille mesh
When my big 4wd air dam got jacked up off road, I too noticed that the front plate isn't truly attached with screws or bolts. What I did was clip the plastic bracket back on where it belongs. Then, I drilled two small pilot holes through the plastic bracket and on through the bumper. Finally, I screwed 2 sheet metal screws with washers though the plastic bracket and into the pilot holes in the chrome bumper. The license plate covers the screws and the result is a front plate is is much sturdier than it was from the factory.

Reason: clarification
I haven't had issues with mine being off... Mine was bolted to the plastic but not to firmly attached. Planned on making a better bumper this year to mount the plate on.
