My truck is only pulling fuel from the back tank, but you can read the fuel level on whichever tank you flip the switch. What might my problem be?? Am I gonna need a new selector valve??
Oh ya I dont have a sig set up... its an 83 F-250 with a 6.9
it could be a wire problem or yes,the FSV.
first quick test:
leave truck off.turn key forward.flip to the other tank and listen closely for a little "buz" noise down by the front tank.
if you dont hear it switch, check the voltage.
this should help you figure out everything: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...Selector+Valve
though, likely not the same color wires, but will help you get on the right testing path.
while you guys are talking about fuel tanks I have a question. I only have the rear tank on my truck, If I fill that tank all the way up my gauge only reads 1/2 full, I assume that is because I only have 1 tank and the gauge is calibrated for both tanks right?
nope.that sounds like a bad fuel tank sending unit farmboy.
the same gauge reads both tanks yes,but this is switched between tanks when you flip the switch.or simply put-1 gauge reads one tank at a time, the actual gauge doesn't know it's reading between two tanks.it just reads one or the other.rather than switching "off" lets say, like a light switch in your house,it simply switches to the other tank, and then receives info from that tanks sending unit.(at the same time, other things are switched "between" like this, like the fuel flow between front/rear tank.
i probably didn't explain this all that well.hope it makes sense.
If the gauge is switching tanks, the the tank selector valve has to be working, it is what changes which tank the fuel level is sent to the gauge from.
So if the gauge is switching tanks, and say you have under 1/2 tank in the front tank, I am going to say the fuel pickup is broken off in the front tank.
Engine runs out of fuel somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 tank.
When it ran out of "gas" on the highway the front tank was only about 1/2 gallon below overflowing. If the pickup was broken completely off would I just get no fuel when switched to the front tank?? Why is it just sticking in the back tank? Could be a fuel line clogged?? I am gonna drop the skid plate and get a closer look at the FSV on Wednesday, my next day off.
