Lately when I take my 70 Ranger out for a spin, I find the passenger side door has worked its way open slightly. Hasn't flown open yet but I am worried about losing one of my two kids if the catastrophic should happen. I need them to take care of me later.
Hinge appears tight. Have'nt really started looking to closely. What should I look for first?
John My first reaction is the last person didn't close it properly. Put a note on the wheel to check the door before you start out. Put the kids in belts, it's the law in most places. We don't put the car/truck in gear until all are locked in.
That's what I thought too the first couple of times it happened, but this morning I shut it good and went to the store. When I got home,. it had worked slightly open. Could it be ghosts.
I was just kidding bout the boys. My kids want move without seat belts or car seats.
The striker bolt that your door latch clamps onto should have a bushing around it. I have had these wear out and fall off. The result is that the door doesn't seem like it's latched tightly. I was lazy and just used electrical tape and tightly wrapped several layers around the striker. This solved the problem. I bet you can find the proper bushings if you poke around somewhere like Dennis Carpenter or JC Whitney or maybe even the Ford parts counter. Check out your strikers, maybe that's it
Good Luck.
