400m rebuilder
I have 78 250 4x4 w/ 400. I am looking to buy another 400 to rebuild and put in my truck so I dont have to much down time. Were the 400s in cars the same as trucks, just different cam. Have seen several cars with 400s for sale would these work in similar year models.

To the best of my knowledge, all 400M blocks were basically the same. The trucks used a different oil pan to clear the twin I beams.
The idea of rebuilding another engine before you pull the one in your truck is very good. That way your truck is only down for one weekend.

Hello,
I just pulled a 400 out of my '78 F100 and had it rebuilt. Originally it was out of an '72 LTD. Everything worked fine with respect to it being a car motor in a truck...putting it in this weekend!
