I have a 85 F-250 extended cab 2wd longbed. I have found a 93 regular cab longbed f350 4x4 that has a bad body. I was wondering if I could but my extended cab body on the other frame and get a short bed for the back. Will that work? I've been wanting to convert my F250 to 4x4 and this 93 is cheap. My bed is shot anyway so I still need a new bed.
The wheelbase on the reg cab frame is too short to allow you to mount your Supercab cab and a short box. It would require you to stretch the frame and lengthen many components ie: driveshaft, all brake and gas lines, wiring and other things.
If the bed is bad anyway, why not mount the cab onto the 93 and put a short flat bed on the truck? It would probably be pretty cool, and it the price is right for an F350 - go for it!
The 80-91 frames will work, the 92-96 frames have different frame horns and will require fab work to mount your front bumper but should be the same in every other aspect.
you'll also have to work on some new cab mounts. IIRC the extended cab had an extra cab mount at the back of the cab that wouldn't match up to the front mount for the bed. i'd say go for the flat bed, its a good, utility piece, and it'd work with your frame/cab dilemma until you can reweld a new bed
the show "Trucks!" on spike or speed, i forget which, had a show some time ago on cutting down a bed. they cut down an older chebby from a long bed to a short, its available on itunes, maybe amazon. i like being able to watch, i'm a visual kind of learner. might be something to watch if you're serious about cutting down the bed.
