Trans Question....need quick answer from the experts
Hi All, What motors does the '63 Ford Cruise-o-matic trans bolt up to? Will it bolt onto all y-blocks...including the 239? Any special requirements on the motor side to mate it up...I know the linkage, trans mount etc...will need changing.
I dont have a specific trans part number as of yet.
thanks, Ed
That's going to depend on what family of engines the bellhousing on it was designed for. If it's a '63, I'm thinking that it probably fits an FE big block. I don't think that any of the y-blocks were backed by the Cruise-O-Matic. I'm wanting to remember that the only automatic available behind a y-block was the 2-speed Ford-O-Matic, but I'm not sure about that. I don't know nearly as much about y-blocks as I ought to.
In any case, I can tell you this much for sure - if it's an FE bellhousing, it will fit any of the FE's and nothing else. If it has a y-block bellhousing, then it will fit any of the y-blocks without issue but nothing else. There shouldn't be anything special necessary to switch it between different engine within the same family.
