Well, For those that got the latest flash here is my latest situation. Cleaning Exhaust Filter did not stay lit for the first month or so after flash. As of Friday, it now stays on again magically through the entire process like it is supposed to per TSB. There is something definitely wrong when processes change on their own but I am tired of fighting the dealer and Ford(who really does not help at all) that this should not be occurring. I should say truck seems to run fine except for the white exhaust that bellows out for 5 minutes at regen.
I had it done quite a few months back for the white smoke issue. After it was done, the damn exhaust filter notification would flash for 10 seconds and turn off but it was still in regen. I kept telling the dealer this, they contacted Ford who contradicted the TSB consumer instructions and they said it no longer stayed on with this flash. I was fine with this determination but then on my way home from the airport Friday it magically started to stay on again through the whole regen. Its one of those things that is never going to be resolved that is irritating. I would not buy a 2011 with the new motor because Ford Engineering is a joke. I love the truck but they just cant get it right.
I have the latest reflash also and the message does the same thing, only stays on for a few seconds....however, one time I got the Drive to Clean Exhaust message (or something to that effect) and the Cleaning Exhaust Filter message stayed on for the duration of the process.
I've been told that if the last few regen cycles weren't complete, you will get that drive to clean message. Perhaps that is what happened in your case.
Probably. I got the drive to clean exhaust message and then the exhaust filter cleaning or whatever it says for the duration. This is what the TSB states it is supposed to do. My worry is that something is wrong and Ford is just waiting for it to be on our dime before it breaks. We'll see and thanks for the input. I will have to wait for the next regen to see if it stays on.

Personally I'm hoping the 2011 will be better since I/H will be out of the pic and Ford knows the entire dime will be on them.
Perhaps--now just saying perhaps--the regen "flashes" at the beginning of a regen cycle. But, if regen is interrupted, and fails to complete, then the drive to clean exhaust message is displayed to remind the operator to continue driving until complete?
69cj, yeah but I don't think it was International that was the problem. Just form my interaction with them on the 6.0 liters we have owned and now this 6.4. They still don't know whats going on with their product. Plus, with the new emissions stuff on the 2011, no way thats going to work right the first year out. I don't care who the car maker is.
Road junkie, the message is supposed to display throughout the entire regen process to let you know not to stop and let it finish. I actually have a monitor in my truck that monitors this, EGT and other items and I know it is still on but the display does not reflect that. The big issue for me is it is in the Ford documentation that it is supposed to stay on. The Dealer stated, yep your right its supposed to stay on. Ford engineering says no, we changed that but lo and behold its on again. Thats the issue.
How frequent should "Cleaning the Exhaust Filter" appear on digital readout? I've never counted miles between occurrences, but i'd guess that i get it every 100 miles or less. is it supposed to happen that often?
Also, when towing it seems to have considerably less power (and LOUD) when the cleaning is going on. Also, it stays "lit up" on my readout for the entire process....sometimes 3-5 minutes or so i'd guess.
ok - i'd say 50% of my use is heavy towing...yesterday it did it as i was accelerating (or trying to) up the on ramp to merge in on the Interstate pulling a 35ft 5th wheel. Felt like i had the traler brakes holding me back.

I think they changed the design in the latest computer update to only flash the message for a short time, and give up a way to view it in the info center.
now, it appears there is an exception to that, if the regen gets interrupted, it gets in your face now til it finishes... after restarting

That's strange. You should only loose about 7% of your power during regen.
yeah only marginal loss during regen. I was pulling a better than 7% grade today during regen...well above 65 mph so sounds to me like there is an issue.
