Finally ordered my Helwig sway bar today. Should have it Friday, and installed shortly there after. How much of a difference should I expect to see in road manners? Also, has anyone upgraded their front sway bar bushings to Energy susp. units or any other aftermarket ones? Was that a noticeable change as well?
A big differene as far as I am concerned. I put one on my 2001 EB and it made a world of difference. No more oversteer when changing lanes just point it and it goes!!
Just ordered one thru JC Whitney $13x.xx Delivered
(on sale $119.00) They say 3-4 weeks from factory, I expect sooner...
Mark Looks like same Part# for 4x2 or 4x4 1997 XLT 4x4
Unquestionably the BEST upgrade I have done to my Expy to date! I have noticed so much of what everyone else was complaining about after installing the Hellwig unit. I can now stand on the right rear bumper and the left rear goes down equally as far .. .talk about flatten out the freeway ride! Not to mention how much nicer those bends feel at 75+ mph. I am now waiting on my Energy Suspension front sway bar bushings. Hope to see some more improvement!
Great to hear of your results ! I am hoping to reduce truck induced
sway when towing the camper 21', 6k Lbs. Now if I could just get some even wear out of my tires !! Mark it's in the mail... hope the "Mailman can lift it"
Now for the $64K question.... will the same bar and bushings fit a '01 EB W/O LLS??? If so con one of you post the part #'s for the Hellwig and Energy Susp parts.... I've been visiting my local shops with no luck
I cannot imagine that the bar would NOT for the 01 - the suspension is the same from what I have read. Here is the Hellwig # 7624. I will look for the Energy Susp. receipt to post those numbers for you as well.
Here's a link to a place that sells them for $140. On the order form you input your vehicle and they'll send you the proper bar. I'd imagine that all Expedition rear bars are the same. You could always go to the Hellwig web site and ask them though.
Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. I too have a Hellwig on the way now, thanks to you. Hope I can get rid of some of the body roll in my Expy. After I install it and see the results maybe I'll even add the energy suspension bushings.
I also installed the Energy Suspension front sway bar bushings. The front end got a little stiffer, and I feel a bit more of the road in the wheel but I love it. Four months after the fact and I don't even notice it anymore. Sometimes I forget how well my X handles as opposed to how it used to . . other times I get a little surprised when I really notice the 'little to no' body roll in curves.
I honestly don't know how 'active' the LLS is . I percieve it to be a system that monitors the levelness of the overall truck and make adjustments (like when pulling a trailer) in a delayed manner (not on the fly, but sustained changes in the truck's attitude). I don't think it is a real time LLS where any dip in the road will cause a corner ofthe truck to rise or fall. I could be wrong though. I think that if anything, the levelness that the bar adds to the truck would cause the LLS to work less - especially if it IS real time. I do not have LLS, so maybe I am completely off base as well!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Jul-02 AT 03:10 PM (EST)]Thanks for the input. I agree with you, I don't think it works on the fly, it seems to adjust as soon as we load up and close the doors. Then it's a done deal. I figure the bar can't hurt anything and is worth a shot. If it doesn't work maybe you guys will see it posted for sale, here or on ebay. Man, this is a great website!!!Thanks
