hmmm that is a good question
Just for fun so i know what i am looking at, if i trace the fuel return back, does it go all the way to the tank, i think yes but i havent ever looked at this system.
Wreckinball I am removing the cab off of one in the morning. I will have visual access to all the lines and the selector valve. and since I learned to use a digital camera and post pictures I can get you some if you want.
warozz, I dont know what killing the pump means, you mean the electric or IP? I dont know if it is killing it, not sure how i would know. The wire you mention, which one you talking about? When i disconnect the switch completely, it smooths out.
Find the power wire at the pump and disconnect it and find a different source to hook it to.
I would hope you guys would know i wouldnt run both electrical and mechanical at the same time! hahah

That'd be great. Now for the time being, can i just remove the switch connector till i can get it checked out? I dont switch tanks but it would be nice to have the gas o meter! haha. If i fill it every three days at my mileage i will be fine so i am not too worried but would it be okay?
so if the current electric fuel pump is over feeding the system is is most likely the return line? I cant see it being this big of an issue if the return line is functional so i am leaning that way.
The only thing I can think of is it is doing something to the selector valve. It can be moving enough to restrict the return line holding pressure on the IP or possibly it is restricting the suction line so that the pump is not overfueling. Just guessing here but ut must be something going on with the fuel as the electrical cannot affect anything on the pump.
so a fuel selector switch might need maintenance or replacing? If i re route the power from the fuel gauge wire to a separate power source, it will be fine yeah? Then i can operate with better performance and economy. Hopefully! haha. Can you buy them new?
the other one is not even connected with its tubing. It is in the engine compartment and zip tied to the passenger firewall. I dont know how to just rehook it nor do i want to that old tank probably is all junked up.
Something is goofy as from the two tanks you should only have one fuel line running to the the filter and one running to the return. they may have run one directly from the tank possibly bypassing the tank selector switch.
