So i had new ball joints put in a couple of days ago. Before the replacement when i would stop or slow the truck the front end would shutter, but in kind of a 'throbbing' manner. -thug....thug....thug....-
After i got the joints changed out it doesn't do it at all at speeds below around 50mph, but at highway speeds when i try to slow down it machine gun rattles. It doesn't make any noise, just the feeling. So here's my theory. It was the left lower ball that went bad and the left side that shutters. Maybe the rotor is warped which caused the ball to fail and when it loosened it slowed vibration since there was more play. Now that the ball is all new and tight again, there's no play so it rattles faster????
ANYWAY....what are common things that would cause this to happen so that i can check it ALL out? Thanks.
A warped rotor couldn't cause a ball joint failure. You need to ffirst adress the warped rotor, and go from there. If their was movement from the noise, you would feel it in the stering wheel. So that sort of eliminates something in the steering. You may want to ck the axle for some kind of fore/aft movment.
