I have a 78 F250 4x4. All of a sudden there is no spark coming from ignition harness. Within the last week I have replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs and coil. Ran great up until tonight. Did some trouble shooting and found that the plug wires are not getting spark. The wire coming from the coil seems to have good spark.
If there is good spark coming from the coil it would seem that the problem has to be in the cap, rotor, or wires, since that is the only thing between the coil and the plugs. You said you replaced all of these, is it possible that any of the parts were the wrong size or that they are on a little crooked? Good Luck!
If you have spark from the coil wire when you crank then that can only mean that spark is not getting trnsferred from your coil to the individual wires. This can only mean bad cap, rotor or wires. If things all of a suddened changed I would suspect the rotor or your cap. I had what appeared to be a seemingly good rotor once that turned out to be defective. You must make sure that there is not carbon on the contacts. Inspect the cap and rotor carefully. If you have the olds ones still try to re-install them just for troubleshooting. I hope this helps.
