Exhaust questions
Hey all been working on the 3" flowmaster cat back exhaust today cause its been it the 50's so I cut the converter off and put the 3" flange on {so I can use an aftermarket one if I chose} anyway it has a 70 series muffler {quiet} but without the converter it sounds like a 40 series {awesome but loud } will moving the muffler back just before the tail pipe quiet it any rather than right where the pipe come together after the Y ? Anyone have any experience on this
Muffler position has a big influence on the sound inside the cab, you want the muffler near the center of the truck and not too far forwards or rearwards. Even then you may still have to add a cat or resonator in front of the muffler to get in-cab noise down to an acceptable level.
I thought I had read that in a post of yours in another thread !I am goning to get a short piece of 3" to connect it to the new tailpipe and hope that it quiets it down, if not I will be getting a small low restriction converter. BUT I can feel a great difference in power so I am not really anxious to reinstall a converter but its obvious that my old one was partially blocked!Right now it sound great but I will tire of that quickly !!
None of the aftermarket converters are as restrictive as the stock cats so they don't have as much affect on sound either, I currently have a magnaflow 94009 on my truck, it's 3" in/out and only cost me $80us.
