My truck sometimes will not go into 4WD. I switch the **** to 4WD and nothing at all happens. Usually after a little while, maybe 20 minutes if I try it again it will work. Seems like to me there is a possible loose connection to the switch. I replaced the solenoid a couple months ago thinking the old one was bad.

Does anyone know how to get the switch off? The plastic **** in the cab doesn't seem to pop off.

My explorer has a 4X4 control module. Check to see if you have one and if the conntacts are clean.

 

do you want 4H or 4L?

4H should shift automatically when switched from 2H. 4L is different, you have to Put truck in neutral, switch to 4L, and wait for light,
