He everyone, I hope everybody is enjoying their weekend.
I have a quick question. Most the the streets I travel on have a speed limit of 45mph. Whenever I try and cruise around 45ish, (unloaded) the truck is constantly hunting between 3rd and 5th (I think) Either that or 5th and OD.
I thought I remember reading under normal acceleration the TS skips 4th. I could be making that up....
What is the more fuel efficient option? It's so irritating when it just constantly switches back and fourth.
i had a chevy that did that all the time and the trans finally gave up.my 04 f350 shifts to od around 45, but it never "hunts" for a gear to be in,infact, i was really surprised it didnt hunt between gears.but it also has enough torque to carry the truck faster in od, even when towing my boat.
I try and adjust my driving style to what ever makes it the "happiest." I can't remember where I read it, but I thought I read that at 45ish it uses less fuel in 5th than in OD. I'll probably just hit the tow/haul button next time.
That's weird that it's hunting between gears at 45mph. Mine locks into OD at 44mph and I have to punch the pedal to even get it to downshift. Of course, now I have an aftermarket torque converter, so it really locks into gear. I've heard of older auto trannies not holding up to "lugging" the truck in OD, but I doubt the Torqshift would have that problem since it's a pretty stout tranny with precise electronics that calculate the load on the tranny before changing gears. But, the simple solution is to just hit the tow-haul button.
