Post Next Upgrade

My truck is having ARP's studs install as I type. The warranty is coming to an end in a 15k miles. As I said the truck is getting a set of ARP's, Oil coller and an EGR cooler. What would be my next upgrade I was thinking gauges and then SCT live wire. I would like to maybe not be beaten from a set of lights to the on ramp every morning. Any suggestion. Cannot afford everything at once so in steps please. By the way don't tell the wife I am asking for way to spend OUR money on my truck, she thinks the ARP's costed $100.00, and that was expensive. Sheesh.

LOL, they just don't understand, do they? I'm not familiar with the Livewire, but IIRC Tex has recommended NOT to get that, as theres only about 50% chance you'll get a good one. Maybe you meant SCT X3? Thats what alot of guys have, including myself.

For some reasons, they haven't figured out the monitor issue and power. Runs good and then bam, no monitor or you have to jump through hoops to get it to come back on and then it lasts for awhile then gone again. Banks PDA has had similar issues as well.

I would go with X3 and if you want a digital monitor/gauge then either go with DashDAQ or Insight. You hunt around you can get deals on any of those and on the X3(usually it's a tuner/tunes deal with regard to the X3).

What is your ultimate goal with this truck and what constraints do you have(this could range from weight having to tow(if applicable) and/or emissions(if applicable))? This would change some things that I would suggest that you have to what you will need to have depending on what you say here.

Well it's not a working truck, it's more of a daily driver. I use it for long distance vacations ( I do not fly). I put about 25000 miles a year. I do not tow with it except a utility trailer (1200lb). I would like to sometimes show off to the rice racers around here that a 10000lb North American truck can go go go as fast or faster from a standing start, then the ricers. About the emissions around here, I am not completely sure I will be looking into that as well.
Thanks for any suggestions.

since you have ARP's installed. get SCT X3 and have elite write some tunes for you. that would make the truck run like scaled dog.
the start to modifie your truck, would be
GAUGES #1
CAT delete pipe #2 ( you can bolt CAT back on when going for test)
regulated fuel return #3
EGR delete#4
SCT with custom tunes #5

this would make you truck run like hell.
i have sct, no cat and egr delete for now. my dually runs like bat out of hell. i have ARP in the box for now, and collecting money for RR and little bigger sticks.

The only thing that I wuold actually do differently is #4, especially if you have to go through emissions and there is a visual inspection. I just have the bypass and it works great and the stuff is still there if they know where to look.

Pete I would also set aside some money for an a/m pump as well. I have very mild injectors and it still caused mine to crap out and it will especially do so with the new primary filters that are on the stock pumps now. As it they command so much fuel, unless you want to bring the tuning back down to stock, but then what would be the point of having bigger injectors(except in the case where stock hp/tq ratings are desired(towing heavy loads for example)). Just something to think about.

Night and day. I have to go to town here pretty quick, as soon as I'm able I'll shoot you a PM with my observations. The ole ball and chain will fuss if I'm too much longer in getting out from the tack room office and getting her to town.

If you do an EGR delete, leave the EGR valve in the intake with the wires plugged in. I get mine tested every 2 years and it passes the visual Tampering test. If you remove all your emission devices your truck will still pass the sniffer test with stock tunes.
My truck now has lower emissions than with all that junk on it.
