Just checked the part number with summit and the headers that came with my new (old) f250 are shorty's. They are chromed and not installed yet. How hard is the header install? Are shorty's worth it?
Anything is better than the manifolds, with LTs at the top of the list. Shorties mean nothing if the stock exhaust is still retained. With the shorties, the hardest part for me was removing the old exhaust and the bolts for the manifolds. With a good free flowing exhaust (high flow cat and good flowing muffler: keep under 3" for a single or 2.5 duals) you will notice some power increase, but not huge.
So manifold removal is the most difficult part? Now they are the 3" dia headers so I want to get 2.5" dual exhaust. Correct?
Also, what about no cat?
I was thinking about turndowns just past the cab. Any muffler suggestions? I dont want to be really loud.
If you go with duals do the 2.5" piping. If your manifolds aren't too rusted up, they wont be too bad i dont think. My one manifold fell in two when i took it off. No cat will give you a louder exhaust as the cat removes A LOT of exhaust note. Turn downs in my experience draw in a lot of exhaust fumes in the cab. I don't like em. But it won't take much pipe to run it out the side.
As for mufflers, a turbo style or magnaflow will be good for you if you don't want it too loud.
