97 4.2 manual. Trying to get driveshaft off to drop tranny. The bolts are really stuck. Not particularly rusted, but putting PB Blaster on them nonetheless. Have tried long-handled half-inch ratchet to the point I am afraid I will twist one off.
These things are not reverse threaded for some reason are they?
Anybody else had the same problem and come up with a trick to break them loose?
All I have are normal hand tools, so no air impacts or acetylene torches...
I got a hold of a 3/8 flex handle that allowed me to put wrench to socket right on the bolt with out any swivels and such and made myself a cheater pipe that I could manage under there. Heated them with a propane torch and finally managed to get two of them lose so far -- started raining today so have not tried the other two. Had not had a chance to get back on here until now.
Those bolts have a 70-95 ft-lb torque spec and are very stiff... Would you recommend replacing them when I put back on? Not sure if the amount of heat I applied would be enough to change the temper or not -- just a Burnz-o-matic thing.
Does not matter how it goes back into the tranny does it? Just want to match up the bolted end to its original position, right?
