The other day I was turning the temp **** from hot to warm & back over & over, & the thing was working perfect. I just don't understand. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be a "broken" piece. That metal bar in the pic above is not what controlls hot & cold. It directs flow between floor, dash & de-frost. That system is vacuum.
From what I've read on other threads was the "temp" blend door is drivin by a electric motor with slow / low gearing. (servo) . Figuring this out doesn't help though. If anyone has a diagram of the system it would realy help. Probably just show me that all the parts are soo lost in a jungle of dash wire & plastic, I'll take it to the dealer. BUT> at least I'll understand the system & parts . Knowlage is one way not to get smoke blown up your *** at the dealer.
By the way, the compressor will run in ALL positions if you have the therm in the blue. It pumps harder in AC & max AC, but it pumps in all the positions reguardless, as long as your in the blue. I guess that's why I'm thinking it's the therm dial. But I dont know if the therm dial controlls a seperate door. If so I think that's the door thats on a electric motor & very low gear driven. That's the one that when it gets "stuck" the low gear ratio tears the (rod) or whatever, off the door & your stuck where your stuck. Mine goes back & forth. If it was stuck, I'd be stuck in -1- position. I read a thread from one guy who had that problem & took it all apart & had to epoxy the leaver back on.
The compressor runs in either hot or cold. My wifes does this on her Chevy Equinox as well. My mechanic said it was normal, but a waste of energy. He disconnects them for the winter, but I just let mine do what they do. Wish I had some insight on your problem, just thought I would throuw my 2 cents in.
You need to replace the blend door motor, it's not a hard job and only a Ford part. I had to replace mine a few weeks ago. If you look at the picture to the right of the vacume pot it is the white thing with the wires running to it. It,s around $78.00.
