I'm looking to buy another F-150, and I'd like to get your thoughts on what you guys think the best 4X4 transfer case that Ford has put out. I had a 96 F-150 2 wheel drive 300ci. straight six standard shift, that I had to sell because I lost my leg in a bike accident, so now i have to go with an automatic. I loved that truck, and hated to have to part with it. I'd like to stick with the 300ci. straight six if I could, but this time around I'd like to go with the 4X4, because I can't afford to get stuck in the snow. I'd also like to know your thoughts on the 5.0 (302). Thanks in advance for your expert opinions, believe me it's greatly appreciated.
Ive had 2 trucks with the 302. Loved em both other than on my 92 F250 that I had it had a problem with not starting. Had to take that one to a mechanic (was young and dumb and didnt know fourms exsisted) The truck I have now is a 4 speed manual but the old truck I had had the E40D in it. I wasnt exactly impressed with the E40D but it did the job. Granted the truck was used for a concreat buisness WAY before I got ahold of it. Its actualy still in the family Im hoping to get that truck back while I rebuild my current truck.
Honestly though the 300 is about bullet proof to. Ive heard of them running upwards of 300K-350K or more if its taken care of. My only problem with the 302s is that they always seem to leak oil like nothing else. Mine needs new valve cover gaskets and oil pan gasket but the whole motors getting pulled when I get it to GA to get overhauled and possibly stroked out. Sorry for the essay and kinda jacked the thread but hey my opinon is in here!
