I just bought new window runs with felt and new rubber for the vent windows and the back window. Any tips would be great. Also, they say I'm supose to use a string to assist me in installing the new back window rubber ??
I will attempt this this week end, but not sure about the rain. Ill keep you guys posted on my progress.
Dennis Carpenter has a section in there on line catalog for the felt and rubber parts, I did my back window rubber, you need a helper to hold and push the window in from the outside in.... install the window in the new rubber first then wrap the cord(i used a braided nylon rope 1/4 inch, it's stronger than string) around the grove in the rubber so the ends overlap at the bottom middle. gently pull the cord from the inside of the cab around the rubber, this will fold the flap part of it to the inside of the cab. tell your helper not to push to hard or you can tear the new rubber lip, a little dish soap helps lub it. do the bottom first one side at a time, then from the outside gently push down to seat it in the track, continue around the sides pulling the cord and around the top, a plastic putty knife helps with getting the corners set in place.
Bill, is that correct. I seem to recall that the front window was installed by using the string from the inside while the rear window was done with the string on the outside? That is how I did my rear window. Helper on the inside maintaining even pressure and me outside drawing the string around each side a little at a time.
I also did my rear window from he inside out. it seemed that there was to much rubber to pull out when going he other way. I.m glad that Bill accomplished it the other way, at least we know that it can be done. Dutch
yes the string lays in the groove and assists pulling out the one edge of the rubber so you have much less contact with putty knives, screwdrivers and whatever tools you may try and use to get the rubber over the lip on the cab. do not get in a hurry, when you start you'll wanna set it on the bottom lip and get it as far to one side or the other as you can as they do not wanna slide left or right very well after you get quite a bit of rubber pulled out. good luck. Thanks guys. unfortunatly its been raining non-stop so havnt installed anything yet. Also, I couldnt find the info on the window channel install on the DC web site.
