Help! Started looking for oil leak found hold in boost tube
I was starting to fix my fuel leak and find my oil leak. I pulled off the intake and tube then removed the boost tube from driver side and thought well i have it off do the foil delete and found a small hole in the boost tube from rubbing on some power steering line. How can I fix this on the cheep.I also think i need some new boost tube couplers due to the fact one is cracked and they seem very week and show signs of age. My truck has 256000 miles with never a problem. Thanks you guys are awesome and seem to have all the answers.
Are you talking about the intercooler boots having a hole and being cracked.. or are you talking about the intercooler pipe itself having a crack in it???????
the tube itself. there is alittle notch where the tube passes by a large bolt for the powersteering (so it looks like) and the tube was resting on this bold and line. that seems to be where it rubed a hole in the pipe itself. thank you for your reply
I would check some local wrecking yards for a new intercooler pipe and I would call Clay at Riffraff diesel for some new boots ! If you're really stuck someone may have a spare boot for ya... but if one is looking bad the chances are the rest are getting worn as well ! I would replace the set of boots for $100 from clay. I think thats what they costed.. if not its close to $100
check into welding the hole with mig or tig welding
x2, very good idea'r. I can just emagine how crusty and old those boots are after that kind of miles, at 119,000 miles mine were getting semi brittle, I replaced with Clay's boot kit, way better silicone than your average boot kits by far.
