Hello yall have a question yesterday I notice when I was under the hood with the truck on and pressing down on the accelarator I notice gas spitting out of the front of the carburator threw what looks like a small vent hole just want to know if that's normal.
It's not normal. At no point should fuel get out of the carburetor and out into the open. It's tough to guess from your description but I'm guessing you've got a ruptured accelerator pump diaphragm. This is dangerous and needs to be rectified as soon as possible.
ok I took off the air filter off the carb and I'm looking at it more carefully the gas drips from the acclerator diaphram connection on that part there are 4 screws holding the accelarator and on that same part there is a small little hole on the diaphram and thats where the gas drips. is it safe to say I have a bad diaphram or is that normal. I tried uploading a picture but couldn't figure it out sorry.
i had the same problem in my truck when i got it. go down to auto zone or shucks or something and get a carb rebuild kit. mine cost like $11. You will need to figure out what carb you have, there should be a tag on it when you take it off. When you do the rebuild be sure to do a really good job cleaning it. also put something over the holes on the block when you take it off so that nothing falls in. "you also could just remove the 4 bolts on the diaphram and put in a new diaphram. but chances are that if the diaphram is rotted out the other seals are."
ok went down to autozone today and bought a carburator kit and repaired the problem it was the accelarator diaphram the old one had a hole on it I would pump it and you see the gas spraying out but I put the new one on and it's working fine no more leaks. what was wierd is I was messing with it last friday and then I took of for 3 days on vacation got back yesterday late so didn't have time to go and buy the part but went today I open the hood and notice that gas had drip probably all weekend because I had to use rags to soak up the gas that was on top of the engine do you think that diaphram somehow left something open that made that much gas drip plus I left the truck park backwards I have a slope on my driveway so the front was facing downwards, and you could actually see the drips from the carb. but once I replace it its been fine.
