I already experienced a problem with the float a few months back and rebuilt the carb and it has run fine until today. It starts and idles fine, but after I drive it and slow down and push the clutch pedal down, it just sort of stops running, it doesnt spit or sputter, the engine just slows down and stops. It fires right back up and runs and idles fine again. Even at the next stop sign or red light. It's just every now and then in the course of the same trip. Any ideas what this problem might be? It's a 2150 on a 351m. A note about the timing, the valve cover says 12 dtbc but my shop manual from 1979 says 10, and it ran better at 10 so that's what I have it at now.
It only happens here and there, but it just started 2 days ago. It starts and warms up fine, with out without the fast idle. It may have happened 3 times now. But for instance, today I started it, let it idle and warm up, everything went fine, kicked the fast idle off, still good, drove it to work, had to stop twice, it was still idling fine, let it warm up after work, drove it home, stopped twice, everything was fine. No problems today whatsoever. Thats the part that baffles me. It's not a huge problem, but it might turn into one. I'd like to nip it in the bud. Like the time my float was sticking, it would flood at a stop light and then I'd hold up traffic trying to get the damn thing started. This problem isn't anywhere near like that, it stalls at a stop light or sign, but fires right up and goes.
