Front Hub Replacement

Gonna change out front passenger side auto hub. Bearing is bad. I'm not doing the ball joints. Do I need to replace the rear seal? Thanks in advance..Ron.

ok thanks. Let me make sure you know which one. I'm not talking about the "yellow seal". I'm asking about the rear seal on the knuckle. I believe the write ups show a large seal as well as a smaller dust seal.

You talking about the needle bearing inside the hub assembly?

That's great. Thank you. Should make my first attempt at this a lot easier. We'll see.

Here's another hint: Lots of PB Blaster on the four nuts that hold the hub to the knuckle joint is a must. It can be a "knuckle buster" to get them off.

Is that large rear seal the one that I need to make a tool to press on or can I do it by hand?

You mean this seal that is on the knuckle after you remove the hub assembly?

If this is what you are referring to, then I believe you have to fab a tool to reinstall it.

That's helpful. Thanks. Do I need to lock tight the studs into the new hub or just screw them in? Ive read a few articles and each one says to exchange them or put new ones in. I got some new ones ready to go. I thinking that once it's all together they wont be able to back out. Can anyone tell me? Thanks for the help.

Double nut method is threading on two and tightening them together on the post. That way you can put a socket or wrench on it and torc it down without the nut spinning.
