Well, my front springs are sagged abit, and i wanted a cheap and easy way to lift the front up a tad. So, I went down to Macs hardware and found some 1 1/2 inch nuts. They ended up being about 1 1/4 inches tall. Also the nut fits over the head of the bolt in the top of the TTB axle where the lower spring "Cup" goes.. So i jacked up the front of the puckup, put jackstands under the radius arm mount(at the frame), unhooked the shocks, swaybar, and the coil spring retainers. Got the coils pulled out, and pulled the lower spring mount off. Here is the nut sitting on the bottom of the spring cup.
I welded the nut to the bottom of the spring cup with the old stick welder. Now, I think they are made of cast steel, but I'm not 100% on that, so I took some precausion, and heated them up with the rosebud to get them pre heated. Then turned the welder to the 160 amp setting. welded around the nut in two passes, just to be sure.. Than let them slowly.
Than I went to the bolt bin, and grabbed a nut and bolt that was the same size as the stud that holds the lower spring cup/coil spring in place. Welded the nut to the head of the bolt, cut about a 3/4 inch off the top of the stud on the axle, and installed the welded nut/bolt.
Put some black paint on the "new" lower spring cup, installed it on the longer stud.
Than repeat for the other side. And here is a completed install pic of the other side.
From the time I started tell I put it back on its tires, it was only 2 hours. so it doesn't take long at all..
