I just purchased a V10 3V before doing enough research to figure out a swap into my 2001 Excursion V10 2V wasn't going to be a cost effective measure.
My question, seems only the short block of my V10 is bad, can I just pull the block from my new 3V and rebuild it with the heads/intake from the 2V I just pulled from the truck?
Sorry if this is a repeat, read alot about the outright swap, couldn't find anything on the shortblock swap alone.
The only difference I found between my 1999 2V and the 2006 3V block I installed was the knock sensor boss. The '99 had one in the middle of the valley, the '06 has 2, one on either bank. I just stuck my single in one of them.
I also suspect the '06 pistons MAY have resulted in a touch more compression than the '99. I find I have to run one grade of fuel higher than I would expect. I have SCT custom tunes by Mike, and I have to run 89 octane when using 87 octane tune... Of course, that could also be due to California gas. Or maybe the rebuilt PI heads I installed had been slightly shaved.
I will definitely be spending some money on 5 star as soon as I get this running. The 8month pregnant wife fell in love with the ~7500lb excursion that was supposed to be a buy, fix, sell. I think I get to keep her, sunny day for me. Thanks for the info.
