Fellas,
I took a look back and realized my mistake in the K&N filters and so i am modding and fabbing up a new system. Utilizing a PSD cone paper element and some tubing from here Intake Tubing i will begin the process soon. I will also use some sheet metal and door weather stripping for the box. It will be a fuse box and overflow/washer tank relocation but that is a snap. I will post everything i do because i didnt realize how much better the paper filter works over the k&n and that the restriction on the intake with a paper filter is negligible to say the least. Post up ideas, thoughts and stuff you have done yourself.
Find a wrecked 6.0L in a junkyard and pull out its air intake setup. It's like a clamped cylinder on both ends and a cylindrical paper element in it. It's plumb to the turbo on the 6.0L on the back side and on the front it's plumb to a void in the front end, sort of like ours. I'm not sure where it would fit under the hood.
Hmmmmm... The 6637 filter has an outside diameter of 8.5", a length of 12.38" and could possibly fit where the stock airbox starts towards the firewall area.
they will eat everything they can get. if i could mount a cold air kit right on the intake base i would haha, like a vertical filter right on the top! haha

How much air do these IDI's require?
the measurement i am looking for is where it attaches to the pipe, if i can replicate the pipe i can just attach the filter right on.
I hear ya there is not a lot of room under there on some rigs a snorkel looks good to me.
I went to high school with a guy that had the K an N distributership in the 70's and they were the thing to have back then, but there are a lot better choices out there these days. I think ATS used to push them because my airbox and some even newer has the K an n number cast in. So that is what the parts had when I bought a new one the KanN that was in there was in sad shape. They claim that they are good for a million miles I hope my truck dont have that many. lol
I am looking at installing a hood scoop and gluing 2 duramax filters together. i already have an Edelbrock 14" air cleaner installed with 1 duramax filter that worked pretty good.
4 inch pipe roger that!! All the businesses are open now so i am calling around. If not then i will just order a three foot 4" pipe from that company above.
Thru the hood might be a doable idea if you could get a hood scoop to cover it ... That way no rain gets in when it sits and nothing but cool air plus no routing thru the engine compartment ... Just have to figure a way around the hood braces ...
i am going to keep it looking stock, i was never a fan of the scoops and stuff. I am going to use an idea that the PSD fellas have found in the later years. It reminds me of i believe daves ram air idea but you run tubing to the filter area to keep that area super cooled at higher speeds. it also reduces the need for flaps and covers for foul weather because the route of the tubing is such that it just blows air in the direction of the filter, not directly on or into it. I will show you what i mean when i get there!
