i have a 96 f150 with the 5speed manny. ive hear it was called the mazda somethin? anyways it makes a noise whenever a large force is applied to it very quickly, its a chirping noise. no its not the tires altough ive done that. if i do a wheel hop the tranny chirps every time the tires grap the ground. is this a serious issue? any ideas what is makin this noise? also the tranny or clutch assembly shutters at certain times. when i down shift from 4th to 3rd anywhere below 35mph it makes this faint shuttering noise, same thing happens when i down shift from 3rd to 2nd anywhere above 25mph. is this the flywheel tellin me it needs re-surfaced? or a bad clutch???
sounds like the throwout bearing is toast. pressure plate might be cracked as well. better get it looked at asap while the truck is still drivable so you dont get stranded somewhere.
No. The throwout bearing is the one that contacts the clutch pressure plate fingers every time you push the clutch pedal. The pilot bearing is the one in the center of the engine crankshaft that the nose of the transmission input shaft sits in.
Before you do anything else have a look at your driveshaft universal joints and also at the engine and transmission mounts.
all engine mounts have been replaced within the last two years. tranny mount is good from what i can see. u-joints are good for not but i will need to replace one for the front and rear drive shaft. ive decided that i will be replacing the clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder. my dad told me he didnt replace the flywheel but did something to bring some texture back to it when he replaced the clutch, but that was a good while ago, and he said it could be making that noise from slipping or something like that i dont remember now
