will the 6" lift kit for the 78-79 F250 4x4's fit on my 76 F250? and if it will how much of a difference are we talking here over the stock height of the 76 ?
The front springs will work, but the rear spring will not because the 78 has 3" wide leaves and the 76 has 2.5" wide leaves. I had this same question, only reversed. I looked through the skyjacker catalogue and the 4" "highboy" spring and 6" "low boy" front springs have the exact same part number. So it'll lift you 4".
I had a 4 inch lift on my old highboy and a 2 inch lift on my lowboy, and I swapped the front springs before i sold the highboy. I did a shackle flip on the back of the low boy , and sold the highboy with some serious rake! lol. Highboys don't have a "factory lift," they just came about 4" taller than the competitor's trucks. And the lowboys are only 2" shorter from my experience.
so basically the 4" lift kit that skyjacker sells for the "highboy" is just a stock replacement, or does it actually lift the highboy? if you look at my truck all it has is a 3" body lift over the factory suspension with the 36" millitary tires. i've seen pics of other 76's that claim were stock setups and they have more fenderwell room with 38's and no body lift. are my springs just that wore out?
Maybe I can help you with this, when measuring from the top of the front springs to the bump stop on a stock 76 there is approximately 2.5" of clearance. I just put fresh stock springs on mine and this is what I have.
82ford302, the "Highboy" isn't THAT tall. As Mr Smitty pointed out, they are only about 2 inches taller than the 77.5-79 models. They do not have a "factory lift kit". So....a 4 inch lift kit will lift your truck 4 inches.
As for the other "stock" 76's with more lift than yours..... claims of "stock" 35 year old trucks with 38" tires should be taken with a grain of salt.

thats what i was hoping for was to actually lift over what it has stock right now. i was just under the asumption that the lift kit they sell for the 76 was just a factory replacement for the springs already under it. yea i kinda thought that was a bunch of bs when they would get that much clearance with no lift and 38's lol.
Ha ha i tend to over complicate things. here it is put simply:
Those springs will lift the front of your truck 4 inches from its current state. I promise. And the rear springs won't fit, so buy some springs or do a shackle flip.

Good luck and post some pics when you're done!
