Was wondering if anybody has thought about or have had there rad.and inner fenders powder coated.Having my done for 125.00 and was wondering if this is a good price and if this stuff is as durible as they say it is. thanks in advance.
I am extremely happy with the process and I think the price you quoted is about the going rate. It will hold up well assuming that the person performing the task for you properly preps and cures the pieces. I had my plow frame done back in 1992. It was the nastiest, "rustiest" piece of crud you ever saw. They blasted, etched and powder coated it with a 40% gloss black It looked excellent and still looks quite good. The plow lights have faded a little from the UV exposure, but the finish is not breaking down. Seven years of winter salt spray have had no effect. I'm pretty hard on the plow frame too. I regularly hook a chain to it pulling people out of ditches, etc. Some places have chipped from this. However, there is no peeling around the chipped areas. I plan on getting my next frame powder coated and I intend on getting a unit to power coat small items. You will not be disappointed.
I assumed you meant the whole rad support and fender approns. I am not sure about acid resistance. There are industrial paint removers available which will take powder coating off. I would think regular battery acid would not be a serious problem. I have no data to back me up though.
The price you got is worth the cost, comparing to painting, the coating will last much longer and be much more durable. In 1995 I built a complete race quad (yamha Banshee on a leager frame) this was powercoated. Many desert races later the front of the bike has a little sand blasting, but for the most part is still in top shape. A second bike we have that was painted in 95 which we use for back up or prerunning, has the front of the bike very chipped. Powercoating is great if you can get it at a good price.
