FYI there is a new sub-woofer option for our trucks/suv's. Stereo Integrity is coming out with their shallow mount sub-woofer and the gist is that it is a 12 inch sub-woofer that requires .5 ft^3 enclosure space and has a 3.5 inch mounting depth. It is named the BM mkIII. It is not on the market yet but is available for order with a shipping date of late Jan to early Feb. These things have been speculated about for a long time. I am putting two of these in a 97 extended cab. They take about 500 watts per speaker. You can search "Stereo Integrity" to see the specs. There is also a group-buy going on at another audio forum that has the price down about $90 from what it will go for after release. If a mod says that it is appropriate to mention it or link to it I will post it here. I was looking at the JL 13.5 sub when I learned of this one. After doing some research I placed an order for two of these speakers that I have not heard before. I have no interest in this other than trying to let people know about another option for our trucks. I am pretty conservative with money and I thought this was a good buy for what it is worth. *edit* This sub is being touted as a sound quality shallow mount sub-woofer that happens to have big output. *edit*

Reason: Change a square to a cube. ^2 to ^3
FYI the pre order seems to be going very well on these and the discount will end as soon as the orders begin to ship. If anyone is in the market for a good, admittedly only hearsay, shallow mount sub I would research this one. A search for "group buy si bm mkIII" should point you in the right direction. I followed my own advice and am buying two of these. I think you can only pay via PayPal so consider that too.
As to the name, I have thought the same thing. Maybe it is supposed to knock the *stuff* out of you after three something or others?
I can say that there is allot of info available on this speaker and Nick at Stereo Integrity has returned all my emails lightning fast. I am admittedly a bit shy about buying sight unseen and unheard but my money is where my mouth is on this. Buyer beware as always but I feel pretty good about these speakers after doing my own research.
Latest on the pre buy thread is that you can use a credit card too just give them a call. I should add that if we hit 65 units ordered he is going to throw in some t-shirts, one for each sub ordered. Now we're talking
As far as this woofer goes mine are still sitting in the boxes waiting to be installed. I might get to it this week, but I thought that 3 weeks ago too. Bad case of newpuppyitus coupled with winter couch withdraw syndrome. Can you say L A Z Y. My GF sure can. I am putting these in a 97 supercab that I just bought and I am still sorting it out.
The reviews from the people who have gotten off their butts and installed them are fantastic for a shallow mount. You can do a search for them by name and read a few. It seems to make good on its promise of linear response and great sound quality. It plays quite low, especially considering the .5 box, and has an output of about 90 decibels for one (1) with about 400 watts if memory serves. One of the stereo nuts has gotten about 145 db out of one (1) in a skunk-works box with a gazillion watts. People who have reviewed it report great clean sound that can get loud.
I am going to be running mine with about 500 watts from an old Orion A-B amp that is severely underrated and I expect it to be more bass than I really need. I have become SO old.
My system will be a Kenwood X993 HU, PPI 356CS two ways in front off a Orion 240gx amp, with the BM's off a Orion 2125sx amp, and maybe rear fill from a pair of Polk db 6.5's in the back if I can get the signal sorted out. I will not be going active at first but using the PPI crossovers and the Kenwood presets, not true active.
You can order from the Stereo Integrity web site. I think there is another lower than regular price buy going on right now but it is higher than what the pre-order I got in on was, I think. I really haven't followed the sales aspect of this company since I received mine but I will vouch for them being straight shooters with me.
I will know for sure once I get mine in but it seems that this is a great option for truck people that have little depth for a box. Maybe the best option for sound quality. For what its worth, they sure are purty to look at.
I will report back after I get mine in.
