I have three questions regarding upgrades to my 1978 F-150 4x4. 1. What do I need off of the dana 44hd to convert my dana 44 to eight lug? 2. What header will fit my truck with a 400, NP435, and NP205? How does the routing go and is there anything important about this procedure that I should be aware of? 3. Does anyone know if my vehicle ever came with a dual tank set up, and if so, how was it configured? Thanks for the help!
I dunno about the front axle. Hooker and Heddman should have headers for your truck. I've seen fenderwell headers and frame mount headers. You'll have to check with the manufacture. Dual tanks usually consist of a center frame mounted tank and a rear tank mounted above the spare tire.
Depending on what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend will make a difference. This is what I found out from my header search. Hookers are good headers and cost about $250-$350 depending on who you get them through and what kind of a deal you can get. They have 1 3/4" primaries with a 2 1/2" collector. I picked up a set of hedman's for about $150 with 2 3/4" primaries and a 3" collector. There decent headers for what I am using them for. I think Dynomax might have almost the same thing as hedman.
I don't think you're going to be able to put the 3/4t hubs on a 1/2t spindle. In order to find out check the bearing sizes between the two and see if the ID is the same. Then check the length of the spindles and see how they match across. If it'
s still a "go" at this point check rotor diameter to see if you can get the calipers to fit, if the hub does go onto the spindle. If you're doing what I think you're doing, you might be better off to order a pair of 16" wheels with a 5 X 5 1/2 bolt pattern.
