I just put an AIC from a 2000 psd in my 97 it just plugs in. the e brake thing is just a safety feature, would kinda be bad to be giving someone a jump and have your truck roll into something because you didn't set the e brke.
Im getting mine from a guy at work who has a couple of em. But you can still but em at the dealer for around $500 or watch ebay as the seem to come up every so often from $50-100.
Just beware of the charge protect mode.
It is not lockout while the gp's are active.
It will put the motor on the rev limit trying
to get the voltage up.
I've gotten a couple off Ebay, didn't pay any more than $75 for either. One is the digital display but the other is the plain jane. That's the one that you really need to watch, it kicks the charge protect in as soon as the truck is running and all the safeties are met. Supose to be able to program it so it doesn't, but the programming doesn't hold once the truck is shut off
Well I got mine working but we cant find the mounting bracket that was supposed to be with it. and Ford claims they were only available with the unit, which they also claim is no longer available. So now I have to fab one.

The AIC boxes will work in any 7.3L PSD, and the 6.0's as well too IIRC.
My e-brake bypass switch is only so that I don't have to rely on the POS sensor on the brake assembly to turn on the light in the dash, which it may or may not depending on how it feels that day. With the switch the signal goes straight to ground every time and the light comes on without fail.
