with y'alls help I have fixed more on this truck than I thought possible when I bought my 1st diesel. Thanks for that and here comes the newbie ?? again How do I get the codes out of my tranny. I got stuck axle deep in some bentonite clay mud the other day and now I'm stuck in limp mode with no idea where to start. My cooler lines got knocked loose last week and I lost all my ATF on the way to buy new hose clamps and more fluid. Got that fixed, but the Tach got all goofy and then I got stuck and that's all she wrote. Anyway what do I need to hook up and where to get the codes out?
PS Could'nt get into 4x4 cuz the shift lever popped off in my hand(again) guess I should have drilled it instead of just using JB.
Edit, with the shifter, i would get a metal tube sleeve of sorts to connect the two pieces and make sure it is a snug fit, then use it with the jb. The jb has good strength but sticking two pieces of a pole together and then putting torque on it will pop it loose if there is no support. I have seen pipe clamps put on to secure it and jb putty packed around it to make a solid piece and that works well but the more pressure and torque you can distribute across the length, the better it will be.
where under the hood? and can I use a digital ohm/voltmeter to get the codes? One of the reasons I got this truck was a lack of computer smarts. I don't want nothin to do with them thar widgets!
have no idea how you could use a volt meter/ohm meter to get a trouble code, in other words, i doubt the hell out of it. I am pretty sure it is right next to the fuse panel under the hood. You will need an OBD-1 reader for ford vehicles.
