New Radiator

Fellas,
For out radiators the replacements are a lot of times listed as the aluminum ones rather than the copper ones. Ford techs stated that even the heaviest of HD fords have the aluminum ones but the copper ones are better. I dont tow anything above a 2000 pound horse trailer and at most another 2000 in horses so 4000pounds. Could i get away with one of the aluminum ones? My thinking is that my dads 06 F350 super duty that is turboed and has a way higher load rate can run an aluminum one, i should be able to as well no?

Aluminum and plastic is the best. If you dont belive it just ask any auto manufacturer lol.
Sopposedly aluminum transfers the heat better, I still like the outdated heavy copper ones myself.

Anyone know the size of radiator or would i just have to measure? It takes up all the space allowed there so i know it is good because i have seen when a smaller gasser one is installed. Also is there a newer one from a diesel model that i could use? Thinking of finding a clean JY model!

Wrekinball one of my semi's an international actually has an aluminum radiator with plastic tanks and it has 1,400,000 miles on the radiator but I did have to have one of the plastic tanks replaced once. So yea they work.

Oh the poor hippies. lol The stock radiators in these will handle any cooling issues you can muster with the IDI. these trucks come with the best cooling package of any thing I can think of period.

LMFAO!! yeah this morning when cruising along at about 50 i started up a hill and found it way easier to accelerate up the hill but she went up a letter on the "normal" scale. The current rad is scaled and rotted at the bottom. Doesnt leak but it is coming i can feel it.

Yea if the fins are rotting you are losing cooling capacity.

I'll agree with you on this one.lol It would be bad to smoke a hippie aand your radiator let go so they could pass you flyiny the one finger salute. lol
This actually happened to us once in a 74 one ton with a 390 with straight duals that sounded wicked, We were passing a bicycle and clutched it and revved it to scare him and a rod made a quick exit, talk about embarassing.

If you have an all metal rad, don't rule out getting it recored at a rad shop either. I had one done for my '89 a few years ago, but can't recall what the price was. They can recore rads with plastic tanks too, but I haven't had as good a luck with that, always seem to end up leaking a bit at the gasket in a few months, and have to take them back to be resealed there.

I really have to question aluminum transfering heat better than copper/brass.

Cheaper, no question about that.

Wonder why all the best CPU heat sinks are copper, the cheapies are aluminum.
As for the transfer of energy, takes twice as much aluminum to carry the same amount of electricity.

Sorry but in my mind aluminum does not transfer heat better, it is just cheaper.

And I also have to point at getting the radiator recored may be a cheaper way to go.

As for the new vehicles with aluminum radiators, I think cheaper not better wins again.

Run in a lot of road salt, I think that copper/brass will last three or four times as long as an aluminum radiator will, so is 100 dollars cheaper really less expensive?

Again not in my book.

thinking more and more about that but it seems that everything not new on island is almost the same price as new. I will check around. I just remember that the BW1356 i tried to find at a JY was 400 minimum and it the cheapest had over 180K on it. We shall see. Thanks for that idea though, i didnt remember that i recored my ****** rad way back when.
